If I add topsoil to my yard, will it affect the bulbs that are already planted? Also the hyacinths that I planted last year are up and almost ready to flower but seem awfully close to the ground. Are they supposed to be?

Sometimes bulbs that were planted a bit late seem to bloom at a shorter height the following year. Also, the hyacinths begin to show color before they have reached their full height. There are also different kinds of hyacinths, so perhaps you planted a shorter variety.

Adding topsoil while the bulbs are dormant, and adding only an inch or two, should not bother most bulbs.
