Allow the foliage to die back naturally as it is storing nutrients to the bulb. Dig and divide in late summer/fall. Daffodil bulbs produce offsets attached to the parent bulb. Gently separate them. Let them callus for a day. Plant the larger ones directly into the garden. Small ones can be planted in pots and grown for a year or two before putting back in the garden.
