What are the white clusters or spots of powdery residue on the top and bottoms of most of my indoor plants? It seems to be killing the new growth. Could it be too much sun? How do I get rid of it for good. It keeps coming back even after I used alcohol.

Based on your description it may be powdery mildew or a fungal infection. You might wish to take a sample to your county extension to have them diagnose it for certain and suggest how to treat it. In the meantime, avoid wetting the foliage, improve air circulation around the plants, and remove and destroy any infected leaves to reduce the reinfection rate. In addition, avoid overfertilizing the plants.
