Japanese maple coloration depends on the variety you are growing (there are hundreds of different kinds) and on the amount of sunlight the tree receives. In some cases a brighter location will enhance the summer color. Fall color can vary depending on the location, the weather, and the variety you are growing as well. If the trees seem healthy otherwise, you might want to try a different variety.
