I planted a row of Arborvite 15 years ago at the edge of my proberty. They have grown into a wonderful property edging and are now aobut 12 -14 ft high. However, this spring I notice that the bottom 3 feet across all of them and around all of them are totally devoid of any green whatsoever. The look like an evergreen bottom that has not gotten any sun (but this is not the case as the sun floods the entire row on both sides each day. Is this characterstic ot the tree when it reaches a certain height, or are they in serious trouble? Please....What can I do ?

Thanks

Based on your description, I am unable to make a definitive diagnosis of the problem. It could be a mechanical cause such as accidental herbicide injury or it could be a disease problem. You might want to consult with your county extension to determine if possible what has happened and how best to care for the plants now. I'm sorry about your hedge!
