There are different kinds of begonias. The tuberous begonias (usually sold as tubers or as individual potted plants) are planted in the shade. The fibrous rooted begonias sold as bedding plants are tolerant of a wide range of conditions and are often planted in a partial shade location. They will tolerate more light if watered generously, and will also tolerate a shadier location although they may bloom a bit less.
