I live in Seattle and I've started my tomatoes and basil indoors in flats. The tomatoes are about 4" tall now. When is it safe to put them out in the garden? I've already been hardenning them off on the patio. Is it true the basil should not go out until June? THX Andy |
The average last frost date for the Seattle area is April 15th. It takes several weeks after that for the soil and air temperatures to warm up enough to suit tomatoes and basil. June first is a good target date for setting your plants out. You can transplant them earlier but nighttime temperatures will be too cold for them unless you add a protective row cover, or hot caps around your plants. |
