| I LOVE sour plums. I just bought a Prunus Cerasifera Newport thinking it would be an inexpensive way to add a plum tree to my yard. Some brief research indicates that this specimen does not produce many fruit. My question: If my primary interest is for a tree that produces plentiful and sour plums, have I purchased the wrong species and if so what other species should I get. Do I have any hopes of the prunus Newport bearing plentiful fruit? |
| Unfortunately, Newport is grown exclusively as an ornamental tree -- and it is very pretty. For a fruit producer, you might want to consult with your state extension service with regard to recommended varieties that do particularly well in your local area. |
