Peas are usually planted in very early spring (March or early April) so that they have time to grow and produce before the warm weather arrives. They can also be planted in late summer to produce a fall crop. The soil should be deeply dug and well amended with organic matter, and a soil inoculant should be used at planting time. Peas do well in average garden soil and appreciate even moisture, especially once they have come into bloom. Picking the peas often will help the plants produce over a longer period.
