The Q&A Archives: Requirements Of Leucothoe

Question: I would like to plant Leucothoe Axillaris as a decorative shrub. Can it take full summer sun for about 8 hours / day in the summer? Would it be hardy enough for Staten Island New York?

Answer: Leucothoe prefers partial or full shade. One of my references says it will tolerate full sun in cool climates if watered adequately. It is native to the Southeast, but it is rated to survive your zone.
