With cost being no object....what is the best wood type mulch for flower beds? What is the difference between Cyprus, Cedar or pine mulches? Does one repel pests better than the other?

Organic mulch is good because it retains soil moisture, reduces soil temperatures and controls weeds. As it breaks down it releases nutrients to the soil. So, what type of mulch isn't as important as the process of mulching itself. I'm not aware of any studies that tested the pest repeling properties of different mulches. However, studies do show that healthy plants that are properly maintained are the best way to prevent pest and disease problems!
