Is there a ground cover that requires no mowing that will tolerate occasional traffic (on the way to the meter)? It's very warm in summer and freezes in winter, full to partial sun. While I'm being picky - that has some color, either leaves or little flowers?

I don't think you're being picky at all! Some groundcovers for you to consider include Cerastium tomentosum (snow-in-summer), Houttuynia cordata, Mazus reptans, Phlox subulata, Euonymus (non-flowering), Ajuga, and Vinca minor.
