Is there such thing as a dwarf persimmon? I would like to grow one in a patio tub. I have excellent southern exposure on the patio. Will a regular tree stay small and still thrive and bear fruit in a tub 18-20 inches square?

There are 2 species of persimmons that grow well in the west; both grow 20 - 30 ft. high. You can prune to keep a persimmon tree small enough to thrive in a container, but you may lose fruit production if you prune too hard. Even if your persimmon doesn t bear fruit, the branches and trunk have interesting bark and attractive foliage, making it a worthwhile plant for patio or deck.
