Could you please help me with selecting flowers or plants to go in planters (benches with a planter on either side)that are around my pool. They are in direct sun almost all day. Two of them are in the shade after 12:00pm but the others are in the sun all day. They are right next to the pool so I worry about bees also. Is there hope. Thanks |
Unfortunately, bees will be attracted to any flowering plant, so you might want to try some tropical foliage plants that do well in containers such as the newer varieties of "sun" coleus or perhaps the variegated cannas that are grown as much for their patterned foliage as their blooms. Another plant to consider would be an ornamental grass such as the purple fountain grass with striking purple foliage. Another plant to consider is the ornamental sweet potato vine such as the dark leafed "Blackie" or the chartreuse "Marguerite". These assorted plants can be combined for some interesting combination effects. For the containers in morning sun you might consider some of the lovely patterned English ivy varieties, or perhaps train an ivy into a topiary shape, or consider foliage plants such as Joseph's Coat or Polka Dot Plant. I hope this gives you some ideas. |
