I started all my seedlings in peat pots and kept them outside (except for two - three days when the nights dropped below freezing). They have been growing for three weeks and many of them are now leggy and very weak. I think I will need to re-seed. Did I plant them too soon, over water, under water, kept the outside to early - What did I do wrong? |
Legginess is usually a sign of insufficient sunlight. Also, did you fertilize? Once seedlings have their first set of true leaves you can start fertilizing with a dilute solution about once a week, as they quickly use up nutrients in the soil. Or, if you used a sterile potting mix, there are no nutrients and they quickly exhaust the stored reserves from the seed. Make sure that the peat pots are deep enough for their root systems. Hope this info helps. |
