What is the best location to plant a small (8")plant? I urchased this small plant a few years ago and it hasn't grown but about an inch. I would like to put it outside but don't know if it will do better in sun or shade.

The bay leaf is not hardy in your area, so planting it in the ground is a bit problematic because you would either have to dig it up and repot it in the fall or allow it to freeze to death over the winter. Sometimes these trees do not grow well in a container if they have become potbound. So you might try repotting it in a well draining mix. Be sure to loosen any encircling roots when you repot it or when you plant it in the ground. It does well in bright light, but in a small pot all day sun may be too drying.
