When is the best time to start planting vegtables in new York?

The answer to your question depends on what you are trying to grow and on your frost date. Some vegetable such as potatoes and peas and spinach and broccoli can be planted very early while there is still frost, while tomatoes, peppers, squash, and melon should be planted when there is no longer a danger of frost and the soil has warmed up. Some quick growing plants such as bush beans can be planted more than once in a season. There is also the possibility of planting cool season veggies in late summer for a fall crop.
