I planted snapdragons indoors too early. They are 12" high, thin and leggy. Could they be cut back now to make them bushy and stronger and still bloom well when transplanted outdoors? I have buds on a couple of them. |
Usually, snapdragons are pinched back when they are only about four inches tall, this makes them bushy and thick. Then, when harvesting the flowers or when deadheading spent blooms, the cut should be made just above a node that will go on to form side branching with additional blooms. Since they are so tall, you may want to cut them back by about half and see what happens. Snapdragons can be set out quite early in the season, so make sure to get them conditioned and planted outside as soon as the weather is settling. |
