The Q&A Archives: Hollyhock Planting Instructions.

Question: I recently recieved three hollyhock plants- 'bare root' in think- in the mail. THere were no instructions for planting. Do I put the entire plant underground and if so how far? Thanks.

Answer: If you look carefully at your new plants you'll be able to determine where the roots stop and the stem begins. Plant so the roots are buried in the soil and the very beginning of the stem is above ground. If you cannot find a stem or a potential stem, bury the roots only about 2" below the soil surface. Hope your hollyhocks are beautiful this year!
