The Q&A Archives: Planting Strawberries In A Strawberry Pot

Question: I have trouble with the dirt washing out of the holes when I plant strawberries in a strawberry pot. Is there a cure?

Answer: Until the roots of your plants grow a little more, you're bound to have some dirt trickle out of the holes. Eventually each plant will grow a mass of roots and essentially plug up the holes so no soil can escape. I plant my strawberry jar by putting the potting soil in the pot until I reach the first ?pocket? level. At this point, plant a strawberry in that ?pocket?. I continue adding soil and plants in each pocket until the soil level is about 3-4 inches from the top level. I then plant three or four plants there and fill in with potting soil.

Hope you have a terrific harvest!
