In my garden, the bees and butterflies are attracted to almost everything in bloom, but especially things planted in large swathes or drifts of all one plant. For butterflies, it can also be important to plant larval feed sources as well as nectar plants. Some particularly bee attracting plants would include herbs such as basil, borage, calendula, catnip, hyssop, lemon balm, mint, summer savory, and thyme. Butterflies enjoy these plants as well.

Additional butterfly plants include parsley, dill, Virginia creeper, butterfly weed (Asclepias), butterfly bush (Buddleia, often grown in the flower garden), purple cone flower, and Verbena bonariensis.
