The Q&A Archives: Pruning Hostas

Question: Should Hostas be pruned to the ground in late fall? If I live in a warm climate, do they keep
their foliage year round?

Answer: All hostas go dormant in the winter, even in mild-winter climates, collapsing to almost nothing. Rake to remove dead foliage. In the spring new leaves will appear. Clumps will expand over time, becoming more beautiful with each passing year.
