The Q&A Archives: My Heavenly Blue Morning Glories Turn Purple

Question: Why won't my "Heavenly Blue" morning glories grow blue fowers? The first year I planted them, they were beautiful!
and blue! All the following years-- the last 4-5 years--
they turn a deep purple and I am terribly dissappointed. Is it my soil? Or the Ph? What can I do? Please help me!

Answer: Since the first year the plants were truly the color you expected, then I would suspect your seed strain is not stable and the seedlings are reverting to a more "natural" color or crossing with other varieties. To avoid this, you might try starting afresh with a fresh batch of "Heavenly Blue" seeds each year.
