| It was noted on your description of buddleia that last season's old growth should be cut to ground level in spring. What would you recommend if last season's old growth already started to show green shoots? Would you still cut back to ground level or leave it as it is? Spring came quickly up here in Syracuse (after a very long winter!) and the new growth was rapid. HELP!!! |
| Buddleia can be treated several ways. In colder areas it is nearly always killed to the ground or close to it each winter and the dead wood must be removed. After that, pruning is done for shaping and/or size control as needed/desired. You could simply nip off the ends of the growth tips to encourage branching and skip the major pruning. |
