Unfortunately, although some plants are reputed to deter mosqitoes, they are not usually as effective as one might hope. The "citronella" scented geranium and similar plants do not release their repelling odor until bruised and are thus of limited use. Screening, wearing repellent and protective clothing, and eliminating nearby breeding grounds are all possible methods of reducing exposure to mosquitoes (and other insects). Your county extension may have additional suggestions for dealing with specific insects.
