I'm trying to find the perfect evergreen tree to use between my 1926 Spanish Revival home and my neighbor's backyard two-story rental unit. Lots are small so I need heighth, not breadth, to the tree. I'm planning on giving the backyard a tropical look. I'd appreciate any suggestions you may have.

As a side-note, you have a wonderful website!

Cyathea cooperi (Australian Tree Fern) is a fast growing, tropical looking evergreen and might fit the situation you describe. Another possiblity is a banana tree (sold either as Musa or Ensete). Finally, you may find just the right palm tree to block the neighbor's view. I'd suggest Sabal, Washingtonia or Brahea.
