| I received (2) Dogwood trees that are only approx. 2 ft. tall and just starting to bud. I planted them into their own pots and currently have them indoors getting indirect sunlight from a window. I do not want to plant them outside because we are renters and we would like to plant them when we buy a house. My question is, what is the best way for me to take care of them, and should I put them outside in their pots in a semi-shady place? |
| Yes, they need to be outdoors and a sheltered location out of wind and in semishade would be a good location especially since they are in pots. Morning sun or dappled shade all day would be best. You might also heap some mulch up around the pots to help insulate them from the heat this summer. They are winter hardy and should be kept outside year round. The roots will need to be insulated in the winter also. During the growing season, keep the soil evenly moist but not sopping wet and use a water soluble fertilizer for acid loving plants such as Miracid according to the label instructions. |
