Do you are directions for constructing wire baskets that hosta can be planted in and then placed into the ground? I was told this is a possible way to keep the bulbs from being eaten by moles or voles. thank you. |
I have never seen a diagram or instructions for doing this. I think you could just jury rig a contraption, it will be underground so it does not have to look good, just form a barrier. Contour, bend or trim the wire mesh to the size you need, then use the cut ends of the wire to fold back on themselves and close the seams. You might be able to use one long section to form a continuous side, bottom and side panel plus the top "lid", then two separate pieces for the remaining ends of the "box". Line the hole with the mesh, then secure the top after inserting the plant. You might also want to contact your county extension about methods of controlling a large vole population. |
