| We planted Stachys byzantina as a border along the house (we planted it in the fall) and in front of it we planted some creeping flox. Both are doing well, however the Stachys byzantina is getting really big, it's much heartiter than I thought it would be in just a few months. Can you tell what's the best way to trim the plant back before it takes over the rest of the bed? Can I dig it out and split it up, or can I simply cut back leaves from the outside working my way in? | This plant does grow and spread quickly in the spring. Later in the season however it may die back when the heat and humidity take their toll. You can trim back individual branches (cut them short where they originate), or you can dig out divisions to replant elsewhere or give away (or compost). |
