Planting Lavender In Bad Soil - Knowledgebase Question

I want to plant lavender but soil is full of shale and is very hard. Have morning shade till 10, then full sun. Want
most aromatic lavender, need to know what I have to do to get first planting to thrive. Thanks so much?

You might try creating a slightly raised bed with a pH near neutral and excellent drainage (add sand and organic matter but not manure to the soil). Also space the plants to allow for good air circulation and as much sun as possible. Then select a type known for its fragrance such as Lavandin. (The English lavenders are less fragrant.)
