The Q&A Archives: Too Late To Plant Asparagus?

Question: I bought some asparagus roots locally. I planted them 4 weeks ago and they haven't come up. Is it too late in the growing season to buy another set and replant?

Answer: It can take asparagus a long time to emerge the first year, especially if the season is a dry one. You might even wait another month before giving up on them. Remember that they have to root in addition to put up top growth. In the meantime, keep the soil evenly moist and keep the area weeded.
