This is my second year for my garden. My husband just built me a small raised area and turned the soil and found a huge nest of ants. Do we need to get rid of them? If so , how and what do we need to do? Thank you.

In most cases ants are not harmful and will actually help aerate the soil and so on. Since it is a raised bed where you will be working, you may find the ants a problem if they bite you. In that case I would suggest you contact your county extension (287-4761) for suggestions on how to get rid of them; your options may depend on whether you are growing edible plants or vegetables and on what kind of ants they are.
