I have transplanted some 4 maybe 5 yr. old blue-rug juniper's and they seem to be dying back. Is there any method for cutting them back and preserving them?

The plants are probably suffering from root loss, especially in this dry spring we have had, and dying back to compensate for it. You might try keeping the soil evenly moist but not overly wet, mulch around the plants, and trim back some of the longer branches to compensate for the inevitable root loss. The trnasplant shock, however, may be more than they can withstand. Remember too that the trimming will take quite some time to grow back.
