I planted my tomato seedlings last week over red plastic mulch, and they're already growing quite vigorously. My question is: Could the mulch "overheat" the soil at the height of the summer, and should I therefore remove it at some point? I live in the New York City/Long Island area. |
In your climate, the red plastic mulch should be able to stay in place all summer. In hot southern or western climates, it would be better to take it off, or to use white plastic. |
