Can you recommend a tomato that will grow well in Washington State? I have heard of one called "Siberian" tomato or "cold-weather" tomato, but can't find it. |
There are two distinct climates in Washington State. East of the Cascades, the summer is long and hot, but west of the Cascades summers can be short, wet and cool. If you're looking for tomatoes for western Washington, those that have fewer days to maturity are the best choices. Burpee's 'Early Girl Hybrid' or 'Fourth of July' will ripen reliably in cool, wet summers. Territorial Seed Company's 'Santiam', 'Early Cascade', 'Northern Delight', 'Oregon Eleven' and 'Celebrity' have been developed especially for Pacific Northwest gardens. Any of the above tomatoes will make terrific additions to the garden. Order online from Burpee (www.burpee.com) or from Territorial (www.territorial-seed.com) |
