Yearly I cut back and prune my lilac bush and remove old and pencil thin suckers. Someone told me I should also be pinching or deadheading this years dead blossoms. Is this true? My lilac had a tremendous bloom this year and would be rather impossible as it is 8-9 feet tall and 4 feet wide.
Thanks for your response.

In my personal opinion, it is not worth the effort to deadhead the lilac blooms and as long as you are satisfied with your plant's performance and as long as the temporary messy look of old blooms doesn't bother you, I wouldn't worry about it. Your lilac sounds wonderful!
