I am going to plant my new ever green Maple and if it is successful, do you prune it ever and what time of the year do you do this?

As a rule, Japanese maples require only a minimum of pruning to remove any dead wood or crossing branches. Dead wood would be removed promptly, maintenance pruning would be done in June after the sap has stopped running.
