| We planted this tree about a year and a half ago and it did great thru the first winter and last summer, still did great thru this winter.It has grown about 4-5 feet since we planted it, but now the whole thing has dried up.There are smaller trees coming from around its base since this spring, what should we do? What caused this to happen? Should we take the big tree out and try to keep the smaller ones? I forgot to mention that the first winter this tree got covered in ice and survived with no problems.We dont have anything planted around this tree,but there is grass growing around it. |
| I'm sorry to say your eucalyptus probably died back in the cold winter. The tree is rated hardy to zone 8, and Salisbury is in zone 7. The fact that it survived the first winter can probably be attributed to a microclimate in which you planted it that kept it just warm enough during the winter. You can expect it to continue a sporadic pattern of growth -- sometimes surviving the winter, sometimes dying to the ground and sprouting from the roots -- depending on the severity of winter and it's degree of health as winter sets in.
