I need to know if there is a specific kind of soil to grow the best gourds. I am having trouble getting them to grow. Is there a certain fertilizer or food I need to enrich the soil with?

Actually, gourds don't need very rich soil. Mixing in some compost should be sufficient. They do love warm soil though. If you wait to plant after the soil really warms up, they should take off. I have a friend who grows them at his farm in the Arizona desert and he plants in June/July and the plants take off. Once going, they do need a really good soaking about once a week.
