I have been given seeds (not bulbs) from Crocosmia Lucifer and am wondering if I should plant these now or wait until spring. I believe I am in zone 8.

Crocosmia, commonly known as Montbretia or coppertip, grow from corms and are usually propagated by division. Since you re sailing an unchartered course by growing from seed, I'd suggest you start the seeds indoors in March. If they germinate, you can set the transplants out in May when the soil warms.
