I'm sorry but I have never heard that name for a tree before and a quick review of several references did not come across it, either. Perhaps it is a nickname for a dead tree that has foliage all dry and crispy brown? Or a localized common name for a native tree found in your area, in which case a local nurseryman with a special interest in trees might know what it is. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.
