I live in upstate South Carolina. Is Mandevilla a perennial and do I need to cut it back for the winter?

Mandevilla is not cold hardy, so it would need to be brought indoors for the winter. Prior to being brought in, it may be cut back, or it may be cut back in spring before the new growth of the season begins. If it is grown on a trellis and is kept in very bright light all winter so that it stays in active growth, it may not need much trimming except to control its size.
