The Q&A Archives: Bleeding Heart

Question: How much sun does a bleeding heart bush need?

Answer: Bleeding heart (Dicentra) prefers part shade and will tolerate morning sun as long as it has protection from the hottest midday sunshine. I have mine planted under tall fir trees where it gets only dappled sunlight in the afternoon. It's quite happy there.
