The kind of garden you are imagining takes hours of work and a lot of skill; keep in mind too that growing conditions in England are very different from those in Ohio. You might want to start with a small area and see if you enjoy gardening and also to test your growing conditions to see what does best for you in the two locations by your house. You might also want to read up a bit on gardening before you plunge in. The Dummies series offers two excellent flower gardening books, one on annuals and one on perennials and you might want to take a look at those as you begin planning. They both include plant lists and sample planting plans, as well as great step by step information about how to analyze the growing conditions and prepare the soil prior to planting. In my experience, soil preparation is really critical to your gardening success, so do not be tempted to skimp in that area! Good luck and have fun! |
