| I have been doing battle with the ground cover known as Bishop's weed or gooutweed for the past five summers and I'm about to just about at the end of my rope!!!!!! I do not have the green and white leaf variety that I have seen on many web sites, I have the plane green leaf variety. I can't tell you how many bags of plants and roots, which are like spaaghetti, I might add, that I have pulled out of my 10' x 14' garden. What can I do??????? It has taken over everything. Is there another ground cover that will choke out th bishop's weed? I wouldn't mind if it didn't grow so tall. To tell you how invasive this terrible planis - it grows in a small side ben, then travels under my cement porch and then into my main bed. As I have a 10 month old, who puts everything in his mouth, I would prefer not to use a pestacide on this problem. Any advice you can offer will truly be appreciated! Thanks! |
| This plant (Aegopodium) is legendary for its invasiveness. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any truly effective means to control it without using an herbicide. The root reserves of this plant are so tremendous that even an herbicide application may have to be repeated. Perhaps you could temporarily fence off the area to keep pets and children out, then use an herbicide containing glyphosate according to the label instructions. Another solution might be to start a new garden area at some distance from the goutweed. I'm sorry I can't be more encouraging. |
