I just purchased Bluejay Blueberries. On the information sheet given, it says that blueberries need a different variety of blueberry to pollinate. However, I read in a different book that blueberries can cross-pollinate with apple trees... is this true? Or do I need to purchase another blueberry plant? Sincerely, Nichole Clarke |
For the most part, blueberries are self-fertile. But, for a larger crop, you should plant a second blueberry nearby. Apple trees will not cross-pollinate with anything but other apple trees. However, having an apple tree in the vicinity is sure to attract lots of pollinating insects, which can help both apple trees and blueberry shrubs set heavier fruit crops. |
