The Q&A Archives: Organic Pest Control

Question: What organic product can be used to rid my Simplicity rose bushes of creatures
that look like grains of rice which are devouring all the leaves? I sprayed the
bushes with soapy water yesterday, but would like some advise. Thank you.

Answer: Based on your description I am not certain which type of pest is at work. If it is a soft bodied aphid (sucking) then insecticidal soap will do the job and the soap will also work on several other common rose pests. If it is a beetle of some sort, then a product containing neem would be the thing to try. If it is a caterpillar-type pest, then use Bt. Alternatively, contact your county extension and have the pest identified for sure and ask them for their control recommendations.
