I need to know what type soil is required for fallopia japonica variegata. I would like to plant it next to a pin oak if it can tolerate acid soil. The garden center at which I bought it does not know. thanks, M. Nathe, zone # 7.

This plant requires a moist soil the first season in order to become established; knotweed is not particularly sensitive to soil pH. It will tolerate partial shade. Of course, if it does not do well there you can transplant it later.
