| i MADE A RAISED VEGETABLE GARDEN 2 DAYS AGO FROM PRESSURE TREATED LUMBER THAT WAS LEFTOVER FROM MY NEIGHBORS DECK, ITS VERY NICE BUT SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT THE CHEMICALS IN THE WOOD WILL SOAK INTO THE SOIL AND VEGETABLES AND WILL BE HARMFUL. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT I SHOULD DO! THANK YOU. |
| There continues to be some heated debate about the safety of using pressure treated wood to edge a vegetable garden, so it is a personal decision. There are so many alternatives available that I personally would not take the risk. Untreated wood will last several years, redwood or cedar are naturally rot resistant, cinder blocks, bricks, stones and so on are virtually indestructible and the new recycled plastic wood products are also long lasting. You can also make a raised bed without sides as long as they are not too high and you keep the sides quite steep. Perhaps you could use the frame you made for a bed of ornamental plants instead. |
