I will be planting annuals in new pots. They are faux stone (resin) with no holes in the bottom for drainage. Should I drill holes or place several layers of stone on the bottom. Tk-u. |
You will need to allow for excess water to drain out of the soil one way or another. You could drill holes (I do not know what the manufacturer of the pots would recommend on that issue!)or you could use plastic nursery pots inside the decorative ones, then lift them out and pour out excess water as needed. Unfortunately, a layer of gravel would not be sufficient in the case of heavy rain and eventually even daily runoff from routine watering will build up and cause problems -- plant roots need air in addition to moisture. |
